Blood Bank

The Blood Bank works this way:

If you are hospitalized in the Naples Community Hospital, located either in downtown Naples or in the North Collier Branch and need blood, you or a member of your family, or the person on whom you are relying, would call the Contact person in Riviera Golf Estates and communicate your need and location. The Contact person would make sure that you are a resident and then call the Community Blood Center and approve your withdrawal of blood from the bank.

Blood Donation

The Bloodmobile

Kay Randazzo

Three times a year a Red Cross Bloodmobile arrives near the Clubhouse, parks, and the nurses within prepare to greet the first of more than 50 people who've signed up to donate a pint of blood that day. A record of your visit is kept and if you or any other member of the community needs blood it is available at no charge if you are hospitalized in either branch of the Naples Community Hospital.

Discretionary Fund

The Discretionary Fund was established and is maintained by a committee to assist folks who reside in the community and who are confronted with an emergency beyond their financial control. The committee's involvement is free of charge and strictly confidential. The only persons involved are the committee's seven members: Joan Bajowski, Charlie Brennan, Maggie Dorsey, David Gelsomini, Cathy mcGourty, Kay Randazzo, and Sonja Spier.

Members of the committee determine if the problem is a vital one and how it can be brought to a final resolution. Some expenses needed are for doctor bills, prescription drugs, medical supplies, auto repairs, home repairs especially since the hurricanes. The committee obtains funds from social fund raisers. 100% of the monies are spent to help residens of our community.

Operation Reassurance

Attention Singles! We have a daily safety check in service for you, called "Operation Reassurance". This can also include older couples. Here's how it works:

Every morning before 9:00 am, call the Operation Reassurance Phone listed in the directory and leave a simple message, including name, telephone number, and that you are okay.

If you fail to call, a volunteer in the Clubhouse taking the calls that day will call you after 9:30 am. If you do not answer, a previously designated friend, neighbor or family member will be called to check on you. If they cannot be reached, the police may be notified. If there is a problem, proper help can be given. If you will be away on vacation for even one morning, please call and notify us.

Everyone living alone, even if your health is good, should be on this program.

If you feel this is for you, come to the office and sign up, or call Susan Larson for information.

Riviera Care Wear

The Riviera Care Wear Volunteers group is part of a nationwide organization that provides free handmade baby clothing and blankets to hospitals, lap robes to nursing home residents, chemotherapy caps for cancer patients and other items to similar charities.

Here at Riviera Golf Estates, we do not get together for any formal meetings, but each volunteer works at her own pace on her own particular projects doing whatever she enjoys most whenever she's in the mood! Some ladies sew quilts, others prefer to knit for newborns or make chemo caps. Several crochet beautiful laprobes for local nursing homes.

All completed items are picked up and delivered to Naples charities, such as the Birth Place in North Naples, American Cancer Society and nearby nursing facilities. All of our members are happy to share patterns, needles, yarn and new ideas with each other. Anyone and everyone is more than welcome to join us at anytime.

Pat Spanitz keeps the records and makes sure they appear in the Newsletter (Hard Copy). Folks like to read the list. "Imagine, 'so and so.' They couldn't have been married 58 years!"

Historian

Hal Sands, former member of the Board of Directors, was appointed Historian after Walter Jurgensen retired.

Sunshine Lady

Barbara Lyons seems to know intuitively when a person needs a lift. And she succeeds in providing it!
