IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING YOUR NEWSLETTER

During the months of JULY and AUGUST, there will be NO NEWSLETTER DELIVERIES. If you are interested in getting a copy of the newsletter for those months, please stop at the Riviera Clubhouse to pick one up. These copies are usually available a few days prior to the first Saturday of the month.

Just by chance, if there are any of our delivery persons interested in picking up the necessary number of copies of the newsletter for their route, please come to the office to get these copies and you should know how many copies you will need for the people on your route who are not away at this time.

LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS

Since we are in the midst of summer, we are using our air-conditioning systems to the max. Unfortunately, there are residents using the clubhouse, kitchen and annex facilities that lower the thermostats and FORGET to return the temperature to its normal setting of 78 degrees. THIS IS COSTLY TO ALL of us, especially since Florida Power & Light (FPL) has recently raised the rates another 16%. We are constantly trying to conserve and keep our dues down to an acceptable level. PLEASE HELP BY RESETTING THE THERMOSTAT CONTROL TO 78 DEGREES WHEN YOU LEAVE THE PREMISES.

NEW ADDITIONS TO OUR COMMUNITY

The Board has put the final stamp of approval on the “New” Riviera Golf Estates signs at the County Barn Road Entrance. The signs will be made of a plastic/resin type material and should last for many, many years.

Our pool had to be drained and certain changes made in order to meet new county codes. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Our buildings have been inspected by a qualified company regarding our hurricane protection. This official report has been turned over to our insurance company with the anticipation of obtaining a reduction in our insurance rates.

TIP OF THE MONTH

An Energy Saver: Before you run your dishwasher, be sure to run hot water in your sink so that the water is heated and the dishwasher doesn’t have to use electricity to heat the water prior to washing the dishes.

If possible, find a container to save the water you are running, in an effort to conserve and keep it for water that may be needed in case of a hurricane.

LOIS' COMMENTS

Our entertainment was good, the food was delicious and every one was in the good spirits for the July 4th Celebration at the clubhouse. Thanks to the entire crew that willingly helped out to allow everything to "come together" with the right timing.

A special "thank you" to the four cooks that weathered the outside heat and did a great job on the grills, they were Len Bulat, Lenny DeFranco, Joe Furgasso and Tim Coleman. With well trained help like this, how can it fail! Everyone had a great time!

We received several good tips from our speaker on "safety" at the July Luncheon. Our speaker was Connie Ledbetter from the Collier County Sheriff’s office. It was good to refresh our thoughts on safety in our every day routine in our community. We are fortunate to have our "Neighborhood Watch" that will be in full force as we kick off the Fall Season.

Our lunch was delicious, our ladies always do a fine job preparing their special dish. Thank you for your participation.

If you have questions, comments or suggestions, please call me at 793-0317 or email me at: kean2naples@embarqmail.com

Our August Luncheon will be for everyone, so bring your spouse and your friends to the Riviera Clubhouse on Thursday, August 21st, at 11:00 AM, for our Social Hour. Lunch will be served at Noon.

A representative from Grace Place for Children and Families will be our speaker and will talk about that organization’s place in our community. Food Banks are near depletion this year due to the slow economy. Grace Place would appreciate our donations. Please bring a non-perishable food item to help replenish the Grace Place Food Bank. They are desperately in need of the following items: Powdered milk, cereal, cans of fruit, cans of meat, such as Tuna, Chicken and Spam. A donation box will be placed by the entrance door.

LABOR DAY OUTING

The very first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City. Soon it became wide spread over the country in recognition and respect for our laborers. Even though many of us are retired, let’s not forget about our laborers that have given us strength, pride, security and the life style that we enjoy today. It’s appropriate that we continue to pay tribute on Labor Day to our American workers.

Our summers seem to pass so quickly and now it’s time to plan Labor Day Celebration. This year Labor Day is the very first day of September and we will once again observe this National Holiday in big fashion.

Ladies, we will ask you once again to dig deep into the recipe box and bring your very favorite recipe of a veggie, salad or dessert to the potluck dinner on September 1st, 2008, at the Clubhouse, starting at 5:00 PM for Social Hour, 6:00 PM for Dinner. Fried chicken, rolls, butter and all paper and plasticware will be furnished. Some spirits will be furnished as well. We promise that you will have a good time and there is a good possibility there will be surprises. Cost for the evening will be $5.00 per person. Purchase your tickets at the August 2, 2008, Coffee Hour. After the Coffee Hour please call: Lois Kean at 793-0317 or Barbara Wayner at 417-9349.

CLUBS AND GROUPS

AQUATIC EXERCISES

We get together every morning, but Sunday, at 9:00 AM. Our exercise routine takes about one (1) hour. On these hot days, what better place to meet and have fun with your friends, than our lovely pool.

If you have any questions, please call Kitty Kleppinger at 774-4725.

ART GROUP

The Riviera Art Group is beginning it’s summer schedule. For the "regulars" who will be here all summer, continue doing what you are doing! Any questions, call Jan Orford at 793-0971.

BINGO

THERE WILL BE NO BINGO DURING THE MONTHS OF AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER. Watch your newsletter in the fall to see on what date Bingo resumes.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office offers free home checks to inform the homeowner of poor security. To schedule a free security inspection for a home, call Crime Prevention, at 793-9391. After the inspection, the deputy will leave a written report documenting his or her findings and list recommendations for increasing security. Remember to check out the Sheriff’s website at www.colliersheriff.org for more information, facts and tips on staying safe.

Watch for dates in October, when I hope to schedule Neighborhood Watch Training Sessions put on by the Sheriff’s Office for all residents who may be interested.

Finally, thanks to the Block Captains and all of the other residents who remain Watchful!

If you have any questions, please call John Richardson, 774-0364

RIVIERA COMPUTER CLUB

The RGE Computer Club has now grown to 139 members, and is meeting throughout the summer for those who are in residence. Emails to seasonal residents will assist them in keeping up to date with Club happenings. It seems the members are helping the economy by spending their "stimulus" money to purchase new computers, additional RAM, and switching to DSL internet access from dial-up. The Tech Squad has assisted in setting up several of these upgrades.

If you have any questions about the Club or would like to join (dues are only $15 or $20 for member and spouse), please contact any of the following individuals:

Computer Tip of the Month:

Did you know that you can download audio books to your computer and listen to them without ever leaving your home? And it‘s FREE! All you need is a Collier County Library Card and a computer. Go to www.colliergov.net/library and click on Downloadable audiobooks. This is a terrific entertainment source for those who are visually impaired or for traveling.
